This post may go on a bit… BUT BROWS… If you have ever spent any time on this blog you will know I love brows, and more specifically brow powder, and I also have a soft spot for a Makeup Revolution palette; so when I got an email last week about their latest release I did a little inside dance of joy (no it wasn’t a little jig in the office, no you stop it). The Ultra Brow palette has just been release in the last week and is available online at Superdrug for £7.99* or from the Makeup Revolution site and it’s my new favourite Makeup Revolution palette… No, in fact it’s my new favourite palette full stop.
This comes in three shades; fair to medium, medium to dark and dark to black, so there is a shade that will suit most hair colours and skin tones. The one pictured here is medium to dark and suits my skin and hair colour perfectly. First up is the packaging, it’s the usual strudy black plastic case that you expect from MUR along with a GIANT mirror which is always a point scorer for me. The products include 2 mini brushes, a mini brow pencil, mini tweezers, 4 blendable brow shades (which you can also use as eyeshadow, 2 wax products, a powder highlighter and finally a cream highlighter *catches breath*. For under a tenner there are so many items in this palette, even if only one or two of the brow shades ever get used you have still got more than your money’s worth.
The pictures are showing these shades to be mostly warm/red toned, but are actually more cool/ash toned – stupid camera. One of the shades comes out red/brown whilst the red are ash which is great for me as I hate that most high street brow products aimed at brown hair is always red toned. I am bit of a brush snob and rarely use the freebie brushes you get in palettes, but gave this try and it’s not too bad actually, especially if you are out or can’t find your usual brow brush; likewise the tweezers and mini pencil are great space savers in your makeup bag. All that stuff doesn’t matter though does it, what really matters is the powders, creams and waxes…
Luckily, I don’t need to mix any of the shades to a match to my brows, but I did use a lighter shade at the fronts instead of having to do my usual trick of being super light handed. The powders create a little bit of fall out in the pan, and on the brush if you don’t give it a little tap (which you should be doing anyway with a powder) but apply well and last well both with and without the wax to set your brows. The waxes come in an ash and red toned version so there is one for all, I don’t generally use a brow wax as I am not a fan of how weird they leave my brows feeling, but if you do use a wax then I can’t see there being much to complain about with these ones.
The highlighters in the Makeup Revolution Ultra Brow Palette are what really sell it to me though, the cream highlighter leaves a beautiful subtle shimmer on the brow bone, and set with the powder highlight it looks stunning – plus you can use both products on your face or eyes; I love a multi-use product. I never thought I would admit to liking a baby pink kinda highlight but I do… Please don’t tell anyone I am turning girly.
