Two weeks ago I turned the big 30 (eekkk), and to celebrate my lovely mum whisked me away on holiday so I could drown my sorrows in free gin and age my skin in the sun. On 10th December we jetted off on holiday to La Palma, which is in the Canaries and has only recently in the last few years had an airport. It’s a beautiful quiet island and I can’t wait to go back and discover more of it. As it happened we didn’t really do much on this holiday as we wanted it as more of a let’s get drunk and relax kinda break.
So off we set early on the 10th to leave rainy Leeds behind and board a flight to La Palma, on the flight my thoughtful brother had paid for a bottle of champagne for me to celebrate – despite Thomson having no record of this and my mum being unable to access her emails to prove it, the surprise wasn’t ruined too much and we got our bubbly in the end. It was a lovely way to start off my holiday; drunk. The mishaps didn’t end there though as when we got to the hotel they had us booked in for the following week, luckily the lady on reception was so helpful and managed to fix it for us – even putting us in a beautiful sea view room for my birthday.

Having a December birthday I am used to windy days, rainy nights and sometimes snow – so it was a shock to wake on my 30th birthday to glorious sunshine and the most beautiful sunrise across the sea. I mostly spent the day sunbathing, drinking and surprisingly quite liking starting a new decade of my life. Maybe I should go away for all my birthdays? We were on an all-inclusive holiday but decided to go out for the evening for some drinks and food to celebrate. Once we got to the room to get ready I noticed a gorgeous bottle of champagne and lovely birthday message courtesy of the H10 Taburiente Playa hotel – it was such a beautiful gesture and helped to kick off the celebrations in style.
We ended up at a cute little café bar and had some pizza and drinks, my mum then proceeded to pull all the local men and we were offered a ‘tour of the island in my car’ – hhmmmm STRANGER DANGER. The same guy then came to our hotel bar each night looking for us, so much so that we ended up staying in the room 2 nights as he was trying to take pictures of my mum #SheStillGotIt. I had so much fun over the next few days, the hotel was beautiful, the staff were amazingly kind and hardworking and the island is stunning – here’s hoping I can visit again and properly explore this time, instead of being so lazy.
In the meantime we are hoping to book to the Caribbean next year with a load of my blogging friends. YAY. Do you have any trips planned? I need some travel inspo.
