Elemis is one of those brands that just scream quality when you hear the name or see the products, and the screams are getting louder with their latest offering – the Biotec Collection. It claims to boost skins energy levels to improve dull and tired looking skin, how does it do this? The products contain both Zinc and Copper (don’t run away just yet) which boost the mitochondria cells in the skin – hence giving it more energy. Along with the scary sounding metal energy boosters the formulas are packed with anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatories.
The new tech and fancy pants ingredients behind the range go a little way to explain the hefty price tag too with the whole range coming in at just under £200 is it really worth it? In short, yes and no – there are items I love and items I am just a little MEH about as I don’t think I could spend my monthly food budget on a night cream alone.
BIOTEC CLEANSER (£39.50 for 200ml)*
I love this stuff and it’s lasting me FOREVER – I have being using this for a little over 6 weeks now and there is still so so much left as you only need 1-2 pumps. My usual cleansing routine is to use an oil or balm cleanser to remove the bulk of my makeup then to use a cream cleanser along with my Foreo Luna Mini 2. I swapped out my cream cleanser for this gentle gel one and it seemed to fit in perfectly with my balm and Foreo, so it’s a great versatile product. Don’t let the ‘gel cleanser’ part put you off as it’s not drying on the skin and doesn’t leave that tight feeling often associated with gels.
However, It won’t be suitable as a cleanser used alone as there’s no chance of it shifting all your makeup, so use it along with a micellar water or makeup remover. Also as a little warning – keep this stuff away from your eyes as if it gets in them it STINGS, I found this out when I decided to see if it could remove my mascara… It can’t. And it stings.
BIOTEC DAY CREAM (£75.00 for 30ml)*
Now I can hear you shouting ‘£75 for a cream?! We are in a recession dontcha know’ but trust me when I say this is well worth a little splurge. The packaging is very fancy and I love that it’s one of those pump action pots where when you use the product the pump at the bottom rises – so you can see how much you have left. I also love that no air can get to the ingredients thereby diluting their potency and the bottles make my bathroom look fancy.
The dual action pump dispenses each sector of product at the same time which you can then mix on the back of your hand before applying. The white side is a gentle hydrating face cream and the green side is a ultra-cooling serum, when mixed together and applied on the skin it leaves it feeling supple, hydrated and silky, in the most lightweight way. It sinks in to the skin wonderfully and makes a great base for makeup application – with or without a primer. My one bug bear is the lack of SPF though, and to be honest I am surprised an energising product wouldn’t contain this considering how much damage the sun does to the skin.
BIOTEC NIGHT CREAM (£85.00 for 30ml)*
OK, I am just going to come right out and say it – I don’t like this one bit. It’s thicker than the day cream, leaves a greasy feeling on the skin and feels heavy on the skin. Yes, I know night creams are meant to be ‘thicker’ but this is just too much for me. Personally I wouldn’t bother with this unless you have older skin that needs ultra-hydrating creams. Because of this I gave it to my mum (who is 48 FYI) and she loves it and her skin is reacting well to the richness of the cream, for me it was just a tad too much.
