Ever since I was a kid I have wanted to visit Mauritius and not just for the beautiful white sandy beaches, but for the adventure and stunning views. My grandma and I always said that ‘when’ we won the lottery we would go explore the island, and probably never leave let’s be real. So today because it’s grey and miserable outside my window in England I thought it would be nice to share some of the things I have always dreamed of doing once I eventually get to set foot on the paradise island, which I will do lottery win or no lottery win.
EAT ALL THE STREET FOOD
Because of the amazing mix of cultures and people the food on offer on the side streets always looks so beautiful and mouth-watering. The island is home to so many nationalities including European, Indian and African that the obvious mix of such amazing cuisines is going to tasty.
BLACK RIVER GORGES NATIONAL PARK
The greenery on the island is absolutely breath-taking when seen on images, so I cannot begin to imagine how in awe one would be when taking it all in in real life. The forest covers just over 2% of the island and is home to some 4000 native bats – don’t let that put you off though.
MEET A NEW FRIEND
One of the biggest draws of Mauritius for me is the giant tortoises that roam La Vanille Parc des Mascareignes and the Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens. These giant creatures were actually native to the island, until humans made them extinct there. However, to bring them back they ‘imported’ the species from other islands.
I am sure you can see why it’s been at the top of my list to visit for many many years, and by many I mean like over 20 years, and one day I will get there and do all these thinks and more. What would be top of your list to do on this beautiful island?
