The Greek islands have always been one of my favourite places to visit, so much so that we tend to visit one each year and have managed to tick off a fair few islands, and even more places on them. Fir the last 2 years we have visited Corfu and absolutely loved it, my other favourite I wanted to share is Crete. The islands are beautiful, the people are friendly and the weather is pretty darn good from May to October – what more could you want?
We generally stay in hotels when we go away, and I believe I have only stayed in villas once or twice, however browsing the Clickstay website makes me want to book all the pretty villas and never return back home.
I first visited Crete about 15 years ago with a friend to the beautiful place of Limenas on the coast, a couple of years later we headed off to the party district of Malia with short stays in Sisi a litter further down the coast. Sisi is a stunning harbour town that is perfect for relaxed holidays and yummy food by the harbour, I mean can we just at how beautiful this private villa in Limenas, Crete actually is.
We later went to Malia again when I was around 19 years old and it’s perfect for young people with crazy nightlife and a packed beach full of like minded people, and amazing beach sports. Oh, and there’s a little island just off the beach which is perfect to swim out to to cool off. If you’re looking for an afternoon away from the party town then a short walk to the Old Town is perfect to take in the traditional Greek churches and ways of life.
Crete is a gorgeous island full of all kinds of places for all kinds of travellers and is somewhere I will always love to visit and explore.
As I mentioned above we have visited Crete for the last 2 years and fallen in love with it. We have mainly been to the south east of the island. It’s a fairly narrow island so if you want to explore you can easily rent a car and do the full width of the Island in a day. As the island is quite green there does always seem to be a mosquito or seven not far behind your ankles, but the greenery also adds to the beauty.
Which is your favourite Greek island?
