Yup, it’s that time of the year again; a time to rejoice in smashing the goals you set, or like me cry in to your gin for not meeting them. It’s been a funny old year for me on the blogging front. I’ve gone from strength to strength in some ways, and floundered in many others. I’ve had amazing opportunities to work with some of my absolute favourite brands and have even started doing a lot more freelance work.
All this sounds amazing, and it is, yet I am still a numbers girl and as much as some people hate goals and stats, they are what puts a fire in my belly. As I said in my 2016 Goal Setting Post I am crazy competitive even with myself, and others may brush off numbers and be like engagement matters more, it all matters to me. Anything that I can benchmark myself again is something I want to strive to improve. So lets look at how dismally I did.
Reach 5000 Bloglovin Followers
So close, yet to far. I am currently on 4480 followers, so I am only 520 away from reaching this. Being this close is actually worse than being a million miles away. However I am proud I have managed to lure 4480 of you to follow me over the last 3 years, and if 520 more of you want to follow before New Years Eve you can find me on Bloglovin here. #CheekyPlug
On another note I don’t actually find Bloglovin that useful for me and my blog. I tend to get more reads from social media than Bloglovin, so I don’t know why I care about it so much.
Reach 20,000 Twitter Followers
Yet again another fail… However, this isn’t my fault at all. I was well on track to smashing this number and by early May I was on 16,560 followers…. Yet today I am on 17,840. Why is my growth so shit? Because Twitter has decided to block me from any searches and hashtags, which I discovered around late May. So basically if you’re searching the #bbloggers hashtag you won’t see any tweets from me, meaning no new people get to see my tweets, I can’t join in chats and the only people who see what I tweet are my followers. Because of this it’s made growing my Twitter near on impossible, especially so as you can’t ever report an issue to Twitter, they just ignore.
20,000 Page Views a Month
*checks analytics* This is one that meant a lot to me, as I had not been able to move on from a max of about 16k views a month. Which is amazing in itself, but I was stagnating and I wanted to push myself.
Again the whole Twitter being a dick and blocking me has affected my pageviews. Overnight they seemed to just halve and I was struggling to make 10k views a month. I’ve had to work so hard on getting people on to my blog, as I’m no longer getting new readers in via Twitter hashtags, so my SEO has improved a lot to try boost my Google search referrals. However, in July, August & September I managed to reach over 21k pageviews. WOOOOOOOO. This has slowly tapered off as I had some personal issues from September and my blog took a back seat.
Win a Blog Award (not my own)
LOL. Didn’t even get nominated for one *plays world’s smallest violin*
Improve my Engagement Stats
I was an idiot for putting this in really, especially so now my Twitter is broken. I think I have improved them slightly, however there’s only so much you can do without ‘cheating’. By this I mean joining comment swap threads, comment for comment and spamming every blogs comment section with your link. I want people to comment on my content because they love it, not because they just want a comment back on their own post.
Write More ‘Witty’ Posts
I haven’t really done this, as searching through my archives to check I seem to have fallen in to a bit of a rut. But in saying that I feel like my posts on the whole have become more chatty and ‘witty’. I’ve written some on turning 30, the 5 people you get in every whatsapp group chat and finally Expectation VS Reality
Stop Thinking Negatively of Myself/My Blog
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH – NEVER GONNA HAPPEN.
Say Yes to More Opportunities
I have tried to be more open about the work I take on, the topics I cover and the brands that I work with. Don’t get me wrong I am still hella selective when it comes to what I feature on my blog, what I want it to represent and what I want to promote. But, I have been more open to featuring travel, money making ideas and a hell of a lot of blogging tips. In other ways I have said no to more too; I have stopped writing so much about my dating life and also cracked down on the foodie type posts.
MY BLOG GOALS FOR 2017

Reach 22,000 Twitter Followers
Post More Makeup Looks/Wearing Products
Reach 6000 Instagram Followers – even if it kills me

Don’t Let the Bloggers Blog Awards Fade Away
Continue to be a Bad Ass Beauty Blogger
This year has been the year of the blogger; with more bloggers than ever it’s getting increasingly hard to stand out or be heard… It’s only going to become harder too. I have a post planned for the New Year about my thoughts on blogging, more specificially beauty blogs, and where they go from here. So keep an eye out for that.
It’s also hard to watch the community slip back in to old habits, like F4F and people clearly playing a character to further themselves, to endear themselves and play the game. Instagram if rife with bots, people following one day then unfollowing the next, and leaving shitty comments. I really hope it can be pulled back in 2017, because it was shitty enough the first time round.
What are your blog, or personal, goals for next year?
