I hold my hands up and admit that I wasn’t a believer in the mule trend at first, I think it was that meme of someone wearing them with trackie bottoms and it looking like they were off to hang the washing out. But, I was wrong and I am here to admit that. I now can’t get them off my feet and I am a true convert. I think the turning point for me is when the embroidered and patterned ones started to emerge which added a little something extra to the look giving them a more updated feel. Which is where EGO step in (geddit), as they offer the perfect mules for me; high quality, quirky style and not Gucci prices.
The Cheska Floral Embroidered Mule (£24.99)* is like all my dreams come true in shoe form, so much so that once my little pay rise hits my account this month I am bagging myself the nude version of these too. Because sometimes you gotta treat yo self, right?
The embroidery was what sold me on the mule style, and these were the pair that made me change my mind. Who doesn’t love a bit of tattoo style rose embroidery? These are certainly more in keeping with a traditional mule style due to the gold hardware buckle on the front – very 90s, however the rose detailing makes them more ‘now’ – more Kendal than Kris. More me than the pair I remember my gran having.
These are hella comfy too, even for my ‘wide’ feet, although I will really be putting them to the test when I pack them along to a long weekend in France soon. I am hoping they stay true to being comfy, as a pair of shoes fit for cobbles whilst adding style isn’t an easy find.
Much like the mules above the Ria Black Flat Mule (£24.99)* is a an eye catcher, however it’s very different to the Cheska – basically you need them both. They both have the same basic shape that’s extremely comfortable, but these have more of an oriental look to them. The oriental style floral detailing is coupled with the velvet black band over the top, which makes them look extra swanky – I kinda feel like I need a silk lounge jacket when I wear these.
Yes, mules with heels, you heard right. Actually, these Esmme Heeled Mules are now in the sale on EGO at £14.99 which a great bargain for a beaut pair of heels. I’m not one for high high heels, as those days are behind me now I am knocking on a little, but these are the perfect height for day to night wear. I would say that if you’re a little wide of foot then you may need to stretch these out a little, as they are quite narrow fitting and there’s no give in the straps that reach over the fronts.
Are you a mule fan? A mule convert? Or are you firmly in the hell no to mules camp?
