Is it even the end of the year if I don’t start this post with a ‘OMG how is it the end of the year already’ style exclamation?! But seriously, where tf does time even go?
As I say every time I do these posts, goals aren’t for everyone, but for me I love having little milestones to reach or aim for. Although, saying that I don’t think I have done very well at them this year *sobs* – the state of blogging has played havoc with my stats, not to mention my shadowban from Twitter several times and then my constant hatred of Instagram and their f**kery.
So, shall we look at last years goals & see how I did?
Reach 6k Bloglovin’ Followers
LOL. This time last year I was on 4480, I am now on the grand total of 4656. Less than a 200 follower gain (prays my maths is right as I can’t be bothered to open the calculator app). To be honest it’s not a platform that I promote that much, why? Because I think it’s crap and they take advantage of bloggers in my opinion. I also don’t use it myself, so I am not surprised that other people have drifted away from it as a platform to catch up with blogs.
Reach 22k Twitter Followers
Woooo I failed this one too. Twitter took my tweets off of # searches, which greatly stunted my growth – and they did this several times throughout the last 2 years. Therefore I have missed out on new people finding my tweets and giving me a cheeky follow, I’m currently on 20,6000 so I am not too far off. Also, another thing that has hampered me this year has been my distaste for Twitter; it seems that every time I log on there’s some kind of argument, so I tend to stay away from it a bit now.
Win a Blog Award
Now this is one I was convinced would never happen, but I am so happy and proud to say it did. This month I won the Community Star Award in the 30 Plus Awards, and I am so incredibly proud of myself for it – not something I say about myself often. It was so nice to be recognised for doing some good (or attempting to) and to be honest it was something I really needed. After getting a whole host of shit thrown at me for the BBAs this year it was lovely to get some recognition for what goes in to it. So thank you to everyone who voted for me, you’ve made my year.
Post More Makeup Looks/Wearing Products
This is something I have actually done a bit more of, but still do need to improve on. I just find it hard to find time to not only photograph the products but then to sit and do a full face of makeup to showcase then and then take more pictures. I guess I need to manage my time better as it’s worth it, the posts with ‘looks’ on do so much better than the ones without.
Reach 6000 Instagram Followers – even if it kills me
So I set this one before Instagram decided to be a fuck boy and ruin everything. I haven’t even managed to get in to the next bracket of 4k. I actually wrote a post about how I fell back in love with Instagram again recently, but due to work and life I kinda neglected it and I dropped followers, which was a shame as I was gaining lots of new followers when I was showing it a bit more attention.
Post More Consistently on YouTube
I quit YouTube – it’s not for me… It’s a tonne of effort, I am not ‘YouTube Beautiful’ or ‘YouTube Happy’.
Take a Photography Course
I actually did one online which I really enjoyed, but as it was distance learning and not fully focused on blogging I found I didn’t get the most of it. I do want to try find some more blog photography workshops, so if you know of any please do let me know as I need to really up my game.
Don’t Let the Bloggers Blog Awards Fade Away
I did them again this year, but it nearly broke me having to do more work, deal with more criticism and social shitstorms. I am not sure if there will be another for 2018, but I said that last year so we shall see.
Continue to be a Bad Ass Beauty Blogger
I seem to have failed a fair few, just like last year. But, that won’t stop me setting them as I think they’re good for me to give me a little bit of focus and an idea of where I want my blog to go. So, without further ado here are the goals I will be failing at next year.
– Reach 24k Followers on Twitter
– Reach 6k Followers on Instagram (and stop being so inconsistent with it)
– Stop letting myself be restricted on Instagram from a theme, post more ‘life’ shots
– Pitch brands more for sponsored content
– Stop letting myself get sidetracked from my blog & post more consistently
– Improve my photography, plus find a style and stick to it
– Continue to be a badass beauty blogger, again
Last year I said it had been the year of the blogger, and this year I think it’s been all about the blogger struggle; whether that’s with platforms such as Instagram, social media shitstorms, or getting brands to take us seriously – it’s all been such a struggle. We are very quick to jump on each other, accuse each other and point out errors/faults, but we generally don’t try to praise each other, or take people to the top with us, which is a great shame.
I hope that next year that will be a thing of the past, as it makes blogging too much of a competitive and lonely place. As a collective we have managed to change the face of traditional media, turn the online world upside down and scare the faceless people of the traditional media; but, if we’re not careful and don’t cultivate our own community we are likely going to bring down all we have built. The mainstream media are, more than ever, throwing their scrutinising eyes our way and they’re quick to pull us up on anything, so instead of giving them the bullets to bring us down with, we should be focusing on making sure they have nothing on us – so correct disclosure, more openness about blogging, and stop acting like children in the playground.
