Buying a gift for a good friend is not always easy – I like to think of myself as an awesome gift giver, but we all have that one friend who is IMPOSSIBLE to buy for. Most of us have everything we want, so it can be hard to come up with something original, and also something that is actually a wanted gift & won’t be re-gifted (yeah, re-gifting is still a thing). You can say it with flowers or treat them to a nice meal or box of luxury chocolates, but this may not hit the right spot. If your bestie is a movie buff, there are some great gift ideas – my bestie is a Disney buff so anything Disney related is always a winner.
An evening at the movies is always a treat and nothing beats watching a big-budget extravaganza on the big screen. Why not treat your friend to a movie pass at the local cinema? They will be able to see as many movies as they like if you buy an unlimited pass. I know that I’d be over the moon if someone bought one for me, as going to the movies is not something I often ‘treat’ myself to, and yeah I see it as a treat as it can sometimes be a little expensive.
Streaming Service Subscription
Alternatively, if they don’t already have a subscription to Netflix or Hulu (is there anyone left who doesn’t?!), treat them to a membership package. Netflix has thousands of movies in its catalogue, so there should be something they feel like watching. And let’s not even get started on the number of shows on there… this is why I have no life anymore as I spend my days bingeing the latest series or film – I still need to watch Altered Carbon, which I can’t wait for.
DVD Box Set
Streaming services are great, but they don’t work unless you have internet. Since this is not always available, why not buy your friend a DVD box set of their favourite movie series? Fast and Furious, Pirates of the Caribbean, James Bond, The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, the Bourne series, Harry Potter – the list goes on. Take your pick of the best movie series and invest in a box set that you know they don’t already own. For me, I’d love the LOTR series because those films never get old.
Avid movie fans will be thrilled with a signed photo of their favourite silver screen star or a poster from the opening run of a classic movie. There is no limit to the gifts you can buy if you start looking for movie memorabilia. Check out sites like eBay or car boot sales. If you can’t find anything from the film then a film poster is the next best thing. I have framed vinyl on my walls as I love the records, so a framed movie poster would be great for the film buff in your life (as long as the poster matches the decor hah).
If your friend is the type who loves to snuggle up on the sofa with a good movie, they will appreciate the added movie experience you get from having your very own popcorn machine. I mean who wouldn’t love a popcorn maker?! Coupled with a Mr Frosty it’s the ultimate cinema experience at home. The only risk with this gift is the unhealthy factor – popcorn isn’t that good for you with all of the added toppings, and there’s nothing worse than getting a super addictive yet sugary gift whilst you’re on a health kick. Luckily many brands such as VonShef are providing fat-free makers, that use hot air to cook the popcorn rather than oil or fat. As well as this, the Vonchef popcorn machine includes 6 retro cinema style popcorn boxes, that will just add to the makeshift cinema experience. This is the perfect gift, especially for your healthier friends as you can provide them with a little treat that won’t affect their health badly.
A home cinema is not complete without a surround sound system. There are some great systems available for movie fans and you can quite easily spend several hundred pounds on a package. However, if your budget is lower or your friend’s living room is not that large, look for a soundbar rather than a package with multiple speakers. My mum has a sound bar and it’s amazing the difference in sound it gives.
