Now we’ve had one day of sunshine I am officially declaring Summer here in the UK – yes, it’s probably a bit too soon as it’ll be raining again in a few days time, but I just can’t help myself. It seems we’ve had a never-ending stream of winter weather this year, so I am taking all the sun I can get and embracing it. It’s still a couple of months until I can get some official holiday sun, however, the recent UK sunshine has put me in the holiday mood, which means I have been lusting after all things holidays. It likely doesn’t help that my mum jets off to New York today followed by a Caribbean cruise. So, to get me prepped for my holiday I have been checking out swimwear; everything from superhero swimming costumes, designer bikinis and swimming basics.
I’ve found that as I get older I much prefer swimsuits/costumes to bikinis unless it’s the right style bikini bottom as I need some tummy coverage – ok a lot. I tend to lean towards high waisted bikini bottoms, however, that doesn’t stop me lusting after the bikinis with smaller bottoms. There are some beautifully made bikinis around this season, with straps and cut outs to spice them up and make them look a little sexier. I also love the print selection for 2018, with bolder and more daring prints and a move towards bright colour blocking. It’s nice to see the traditional floral print not being used as much, and where it is used its been updated massively to be a geo or tropical style.
I tend to stick to black when it comes to swimwear, but I am head over heels for this stunning canary yellow low dip eyelet swimming costume. It’s just like summer in a swimsuit and makes me think of sipping a cocktail by a beautiful beach. I don’t think I would be brave enough to rock it as it’s so far from my comfort zone of gothy black, so I’m more likely to rock up to the poolside in a black costume or bikini with a little added raunch in the form of plenty of straps. The caged bra trend has switched to swimwear now and I am over the moon about this as it’s one of my fave trends. If you like to tan whilst on holiday thought it might be worth skipping as you don’t want to end up with lots of line marks, luckily for me I like to stay pale so sit out of the sun – mostly reading a good book and sipping on a gin or 3.
The blue bikini pictured isn’t my usual style but I picked it as I love Greece and the pale blue and white remind me so much of the Greek Islands, so it would be perfect for a trip to Mykonos or Santorini – a girl can dream, right?
