How ready are you for Christmas? Are you feeling festive or are you feeling a bit Scrooge-like about the whole thing at this stage in December? I’ve got all my shopping done already, which makes a nice change as I usually rush around on Christmas Eve picking up last bits… Still not started wrapping them yet though. If you’ve not yet started to think about buying gifts, you still have plenty of time to get everything ready. Should you have cards to post, however, you might need to plan what you want to send soon as the postal system can be a little slower at this time of year. If you’re in a hurry and need an at-a-glance guide to choosing the right card, here’s a look at some of the type of cards that can really tell them what they mean to you.
For Your Mum and Dad
Getting the balance right is important when sending to your parents. Do they enjoy a light-hearted card or are they likely to want something that specifically says it’s for ‘mum and dad at Christmas’? Take your time to choose the one that fits and allow your own words to show them how much you care this festive season.
For Your Brother or Sister
Siblings are generally a funny bunch. Whether they drive you mad or you’re really close will dictate the card you choose here. Either way, you’re probably more likely to get away with sending a jokey card than if you’re sending to your mum and dad, and there are plenty of funny festive cards available. ‘hilarious’ in-jokes written inside are optional.
For Your In-Laws
If you have a good relationship with your partner’s parents, you can opt for a card that reflects this. Perhaps you know they’ll enjoy a cute card featuring a cartoon reindeer or maybe they’re more traditional and enjoy Victorian Christmas scenes. This is probably the one case where the message inside is more important than the design, however, especially if you don’t know them well.
For Your Friends
They say friends are the family we choose, so this is the perfect time of year to show them how important they are. From dedicated cards for a special friend to quirky ones featuring flamingos wearing Santa hats, you know the cards they’ll love. Be sure to include a note that references things only the two of you understand to truly make it a personalised card.
For Your Partner
Do you want to tell your partner you love them for the first time? If so, a lovely ‘for the one I love at Christmas’ card is a sweet way to say it. Or maybe you’ve been married forever and just want to let them know you care? If so, there are lots of lovely cards for wives and husbands to choose from.
Whatever card you choose, from personalised options like those available from Card Factory to clever ones that sum up your in-jokes, be sure to include a message that sends your thoughts and well-wishes this festive season.
