I’ve been wanting to make some changes to my house now for some time, and even bought new items for my living room with the intention of having a quick revamp. However, the items are still sat there in their packaging waiting to be placed into my home… a fair few months later. So, why haven’t I started scattering the items and planning their placement? My hallway. It’s a bit of a disaster. It flooded a while back and having redone it after the flood, replaced the floors, repainted the walls, etc I was happy with it. Fast forward about 9 months and it flooded it again, so I had to rip up all my pretty new flooring.
As you can imagine I have been reluctant to decorate the hallway in case it floods again and ruins all my hard work and pretty homewares. It’s currently a concrete floor that doesn’t look very appealing. It’s been quite a while now so I think it’s about time I repainted the walls, laid down some flooring and jazzed it up a little.
Not only does the hallway need redoing but the floor in the living room could do with updating – there’s nothing wrong with it, but if I am going to be adding new flooring in the hallway I might aswell update the living room… Any excuse. For the living room, I want to stick to wood flooring as it’s easy to keep clean and I am forever spilling things. There are a few options of laminate flooring I have seen, especially the lighter coloured styles like the Lodge style which is a light grey oak – anything to keep the monochrome in my life.
In the hallway I’d love to lighten things up and make the space a bit more useful as it’s currently just a place for me to throw my shoes after a long day and for Percy’s scratch/play tree. He doesn’t even use the tree so it’s taking up a lot of space for no reason other than somewhere for me to throw my keys.
The Colour Palette
The tiled style lino has quite a villa feel & fits perfectly with my colour palette of neutrals, greys and pale blues – who even am I using a colour that isn’t black, white or grey?! Mixing in some pops of colour with the plant pots will help to tie it all together & give a light feel with greenery.
Using the shelf seat offers somewhere for me to pop my shoes when I get in and shelving to add the smaller plant pots and plants. The larger of the plants will be placed in the jute basket because it’s hella Pinterest-y and would I even be a blogger if I didn’t? The room space wouldn’t be complete without some comfy cushions for Percy to spend his days lazing on – no matter how many beds he has he always sleeps where he shouldn’t!
I can’t wait to get back from New York next month and put my decorating skills into place, it’s so easy to get stuck in a rut when it comes to living spaces, so it’s always nice to add new touches and update things such as the flooring which can make an immense difference with little work.
