When it comes to jewellery trends the fashion scene has been rife with dainty little chains, rose gold and thin 90s hoop earrings… But that’s thankfully about to change this Spring/Summer season. Certain trends such as pearls are quite classic, but this season they have a more modern twist whilst still keeping that classy look. It can’t just be me that thinks that pearls just instantly make an outfit look expensive?!
It’s not just for jewels either, pearl and shell embellished shoes and hair slides are bang on trend, you’ve only to fall into the hair section at Primark or Topshop to see pearly hair slides galore.
So to add a little bit of class, boho or just some plain old sass to your outift this season then get ready to embrace all things pearl! A pearl pendant, or some kind of longer chain with a pearl-centered piece hanging from it, elongates the neck and gives an elevated air to the wearer. It can also be dressed down for an everyday boho look and even flipped round so the pearl is on the back if you have a swanky evening affair to go to with an open back dress.
Pearl necklaces don’t just have to come in the classic creamy white either… If you’re not quite ready to give up on the rosy jewel trend then a pink pearl is for you. And, if like me, you like your jewellery a little more goth-y then black pearls are the one. It’s also a pretty versatile trend in that you can mix it with the other biggie of the season, shells and oysters – they make the perfect team. A classy pearl pendant and a smaller gold shell necklace would make a lovely daytime chic look.
I’m not a big ‘real’ jewellery hoarder myself, as I like to buy mostly costume jewellery and then invest in nice pieces of the real stuff… I tend to buy classic pieces that won’t ever go out of style, so something like pearls are the perfect investment for me. My next jewellery purchase might just have to be some pretty pearl earrings that will stand the test of time…
