As I sit writing this, I am watching the latest episode of Rupaul’s Drag Race and wishing my makeup skills were half as good as these ladies… Why was I not blessed with the ability to cut a crease that sharp and contour to the Gods?! But that’s the beauty of makeup, you don’t have to be an expert to wear it and rock.
I have been obsessed with makeup for as long as I can remember, and although I might not have the best skills my obsession is more than just the skill of makeup… I love how makeup can transform your whole face with a few swipes of a brush, how it can take you from feeling a whole load of meh to a whole load of glam af within a few minutes (or more in my case). Makeup can take you from day to night, subtle to sassy, it literally transforms.
For me NYX is a brand that has always embraced the individuality and versatility of makeup. They know there are no rules and no boundaries, you can be as creative or every day as you like and they have the product for it. They know that makeup can take you from day to night and products can be used in many ways to achieve the looks you want. You can take simple products and an eyeshadow palette to produce a day look that transforms into a night look, which is what this post is. Boots & NYX challenged me to create a base day look and transform that into a night look to showcase the versatility of products. Obviously I jumped at the chance to work with two of my fave brands. I wanted to challenge myself with this, as I mostly stick to neutral shades or deep pinks, so when it came to picking the makeup I went BRIGHT… So without further ado and much less waffling, here are my looks…
Bright Day Look…
Products Used: Angel Viel Primer, Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Foundation*, HD Finishing Powder, Tame & Frame Brow Pomade, Concealer, Ultimate Brights Palette, Worth The Hype Volumising Mascara, Candy Slick Glowy Lip Gloss…
The Look: Most days I’m in fairly minimal makeup, as I choose sleep over getting up earlier for work to do a full face… #priorities. With summer around the corner, I wanted to create a bright summer daytime look that was simple but impactful. Despite having hooded deep-set eyes, I decided to brave a winged liner look – something that’s not all that easy on eyes like mine.
The Steps:
1. I prepped my face using my usual moisturiser & then primed with the NYX Angel Viel (legit a holy grail).2
2. Using my beauty blender I applied the new Can’t Stop Won’t Stop foundation and also used it to spot conceal any blemishes. I then set my base using the NYX powder, making sure to add extra under my eyes to catch any fallout from the shadows.
3. I did my brows as I usually do, which is fairly bold. I tend to go bolder as my hair is fairly dark so I don’t want my brows to not stand out. I used Tame & Frame on my NYX brow brush & brushed them through with a spoolie, finishing off with a brow gel.

With an angled liner brush and some concealer, I set about my winged liner. Using concealer means you can map out the liner easily and just blend in any mistakes. The concealer also helps to make the colours pop when you add them in.
5. Once the concealer had dried tacky I worked from the inner corner adding the bright yellow shadow to around a 3rd of the way across the lid. I then used the coral shade for the centre 3rd and the brightest pink shade for the wing. Once I had laid the shadows down I went back over them to blend them for a seamless ombre finish.
6. Using the mascara I went for a less is more approach as I didn’t want my lashes to overpower the liner.
7. Finally, I added a thin coat of the Candy Slick in shade Sugarcoated Kiss and tapped with my finger for a more muted colour and look.

…To Bright Night Look
Products Used: Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Foundation*, Wonder Stick, HD Finishing Powder, Tame & Frame Brow Pomade, Ultimate Brights Palette, Worth The Hype Volumising Mascara, Candy Slick Glowy Lip Gloss in Jawbreaker…
The Look: When it comes to night time looks most people think smokey eyes and a bold lip, but I love something that’s a bit more eye-catching! That’s why I decided to get out of my comfort zone again and do a half cut crease with glitter. I am not the best at cut creases but I was actually so hyped over this one that I created…
The Steps:
1. As the look was a day to night transformation I kept my original base & just removed my eyeliner and mascara. Using a cotton bud, some micellar water and a lot of patience it’s fairly easy to get your eye makeup off in prep for transforming your look. I added on some more powder under my eyes to catch any fallout.

2. Using the light bright purple from the NYX palette as a transition shade and the dark purple in my crease I built up my base colours by blending until my arms ached… BLENDING is the name of the game for this look. I added in a black shade from another palette to add some more depth on the outer third and to my crease.
3. With the base all down I took my concealer on a flat brush with a thin tip and cut my crease. I am not the best at cut creases and it’s not the easiest on my shape eye, I personally find that looking straight forward into the mirror and cutting works best for me. I start in the centre and draw just above my crease/fold working into the inner corner. As I wanted a half cut crease I stopped just past halfway and then tapped the concealer out on the edges for a more blended look once shadow was added.

4. Taking the light lavender shade I patted this over the concealer to set it. With that in place, I then blended the dark purple and black along the edges to get a nice transition. To add a little oomph to the look I took a silver glitter liquid liner and went over the line of the cut crease.
5. After a coat of mascara, I threw on some big bold lashes to complete the eyes & add a whole lot of glam… Yes, the inner corner on one eye wouldn’t stick down, and yes I did have a little tantrum over this.
6. I was originally going to do a sunset look so the lip colour I had chosen matched that look, but not so much this one. I used Jawbreaker in the Candy Slick and patted it in for a less bold colour. I would have preferred a nude brown shade, but I actually think it looks quite nice with the shade used.
7. Of course, I added some contour and highlight but this never shows on camera for me so my face looks a bit moon like! I used a chrome purple highlighter and added this to the inner corner of my eyes too.
Final Thoughts
I’m actually really happy with how both looks turned out, especially as I have very hooded and deep-set eyes, so eye looks will always be a struggle for me as I lack decent lid space. A little hard work and practice make it easier though, so if you have eyes like mine then don’t fret as you can do most looks with time. I am in love with the purple half cut crease and I will definitely be using the Brights palette to do a sunset coloured version of the look in the future…
